Day Pillar日柱

Ilju

Two characters of your birth day — your personality DNA

The Day Pillar (日柱) is the third of the four pillars in BaZi. Combining a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch, it is one of 60 possible combinations and reveals your core personality.

What is the Day Pillar?

Among the four pillars (Year, Month, Day, Hour), the Day Pillar directly represents 'you'. It combines the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch of your birth day into a two-character code like Jia-Zi (甲子) or Ding-Hai (丁亥). This is considered the most personal of all four pillars.

Day Pillar and the Sexagenary Cycle

Pairing 10 Heavenly Stems with 12 Earthly Branches creates exactly 60 unique combinations — the Sexagenary Cycle (六十甲子). Each combination repeats every 60 days. People sharing the same Day Pillar tend to share fundamental personality traits.

What the Day Pillar Reveals

The Day Pillar reveals innate character, relationship patterns, strengths, weaknesses, and life themes. Jia-Zi (甲子) suggests a pioneering leader spirit, while Ding-Hai (丁亥) suggests a creative and emotionally sensitive nature.

Day Pillar Among the Four Pillars

If the Day Pillar is 'you', the Month Pillar represents parents and career, the Year Pillar represents ancestors and social background, and the Hour Pillar represents children and later life. A complete reading requires all four, but the Day Pillar is your essential 'personality DNA'.
